Santa Cruz City Hall

Our friend Micheal Mears died of hypothermia on February 17, 2017 in Santa Cruz.

Michael Randell Mears was born June 21, 1963, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Jerry Randell Mears and Nellie Lou (Higgins)  Mears. He grew up Tulsa and was one of 10 Children. Medical personnel told his sister Jenny that his body temperature was only 70 degrees when he was found unconscious on Potrero Street dying of hypothermia on February 17, 2017

Mike loved to read and spent most of his free time in a library. He had a photographic memory and was very smart. He got his GED and hit the road hitch hiking all over the United States. He spent time in Florida, Massachusetts and California. He lived awhile in San Luis Obispo, California before moving to Santa Cruz, California.  Mike was a free spirited person and didn’t like to stay in one place too long. He would come home to visit every so often. Mike loved history. He could quote the Bible because he had read the whole Bible once or twice. Mike was very outgoing and loved people.
