Following the panel discussion of the history of Black Resistance hosted by The Peace and Freedom Party at the same site, The Commons SF, in a related but separate program will present a 20 minute survey of the spiritual roots of Martin Luther King's advocacy of a guaranteed income or guaranteed employment as an antidote to involuntary crushing poverty.
Historian and activist David Giesen will connect the Biblical citation molded into The Liberty Bell (which is the origin of the bell's moniker) with the story of "40 acres and a mule" and its relation to the spiritually-based Black Liberation movement with specific reference to MLK's advocacy.
Q&A will follow the 20 minutes of scripted remarks (assisted by historic images).
