Friday 11 November 2016, 7pm: Instead of our normal reading group, this month the Theory and Philosophy Reading Group will be showing a Sundance Official Selection film "Concerning Violence" (2014).
Location: Old Capitol Books, 559 Tyler Street, downtown Monterey
Last year, as part of the series on African philosophy, the Theory and Philosophy Reading Group read the first chapter of Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth, and inspired by this reading we are revisiting it through the medium of film.
The director Göran Olsson, also the creator of the award-winning film Black Power Mixtape, 1967-1975, has also been praised for this Fanon adaptation. Concerning Violence has been nominated for the Sundance Film Festival World Grand Jury Prize and the Munich International Documentary Festival Viktor Award, among many others.
Come meet up with the Direct Action Monterey Network for an exploration of anti-colonial struggles.
