Santa Cruz Police Shoot and Kill Man on Westside
Officers with the Santa Cruz Police Department shot and killed a man outside of a home on the corner of Chace and Getchell Streets, in a residential neighborhood, on the west side of Santa Cruz. Preliminary reports from the media have stated that a 32-year-old man experiencing mental health issues was advancing towards police with a gardening rake when officers deemed him a threat and shot and killed him at about 3:30 am on October 16. [Top photo: What appears to be a small rake lays in the street at the scene of the police killing that occurred on Chase Street on Sunday morning.]
At noon on October 16, police were still processing the scene. A small garden rake could be seen lying on Chace Street, with a numbered evidence marker next to it. In addition to SCPD, deputies with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office were also processing evidence.
Commercial media outlets have reported that police were initially called to a home on Chace Street after the victim had attempted to enter the residence and was making threatening statements towards those inside.
As of the publication of this article, the Santa Cruz Police have not made any information about the killing available to the public.

They couldn't disarm a guy with a rake without killing him.
THAT'S tragic. And a reminder that cops are cowards.

"Officers responded to New Leaf Community Market on Fair Avenue for a disturbance call approximately 3:30 a.m."
"They reportedly followed the suspect to his residence on the 300 block of Getchell Street."

The Santa Cruz Police Department press release does not mention any injuries to the officers, which is suspicious since they say their officers were being attacked and that was the justification for killing the man.
""I’m just amazed that they shot a man with a rake," said neighbor Larry Millsap."
"This man was mentally ill,” said neighbor Margaret Nelson. “We have to as a society step up and find a way to deal with mentally ill people when they're out of their minds that doesn't entail just killing them because they don't respond."
"One of the owners of the home told KION that he'd once coached the man in lacrosse, that the man was a family friend and that they strongly believe that the police and the mental health system have failed with helping the suspect."

At least they didn't have to trot out the 'robot'.
I remember when they used it to blow up a dead man in the RadioShack/Lloyd's Liquor parking lot.
The 'fleeing felon' took a potshot at the officer through the door of his car and the officer shot back.
Then the cop retreated and for the next few hours they had a 'standoff' with a dead guy whom the officer had mortally wounded, until they trotted out their 'ground drone' with a concussion grenade and blew up his corpse.
Your law enforcement dollars at work.

I was a witness to a murder investigated by SCPD. What the police claim and the Senile published is no where near the truth. The only way to get a fair investigation is for a federal agency with no ties to Sc to come investigate for truth and justice to prevail. The SCPD is going to get away with murder trust me there will be no justice, accountability or truth.
According to the SF Chronicle, there was an independent witness riding with the officers:
