This film follows Afghan archaeologists in a race against time to save a 5,000-year-old Buddist city in Afghanistan threatened by a Chinese state-owned copper mine. Saving Mes Aynak uncovers the conflict between cultural preservation and economic opportunity as the Afghan archaeologists face what seems an impossible battle against the Chinese, the Taliban, and local politics to save their heritage from likely erasure.
Dir. Brent E. Huffman, USA, 2014, 60 mins
Tickets: Free event, no ticket required.
