San Francisco March/Rally In Solidarity with DNC Protests
Cheers at San Francisco Rally as Wasserman Schultz Announces Resignation
Thousands are marching for Bernie Sanders' platform at the Democratic National Convention this week in Philadelphia. On July 24, San Francisco activists held a protest in solidarity with demonstrators at the DNC as part of a national day of action, "March for Bernie USA." Marchers cheered and shouted when they heard breaking news from one of the rally leaders that Debbie Wasserman Schultz would be resigning as party leader.
Bernie Sanders and supporters have long been critical of Wasserman Schultz, but the tipping point came when Democratic National Committee emails were leaked showing unethical actions by the party, including not playing a neutral role during the Democratic primaries, instead favoring Hillary Clinton.
The demonstration started at the BART plaza at 24th and Mission with chants in support of Bernie Sanders. After marching one mile, demonstrators were greeted on the street with songs by the Raging Grannies. The march ended with an indoor rally at La Floridita at Florida and 19th with more music and dancing.
