Liberty City 2, we are back, and we demand Justice. Berkeley
Homelessness has been in the news a lot lately. Cities continue to criminalize, media continues to marginalize, and society continues to scapegoat. This has caused literally millions of people to suffer. Not just here, but around the world. Back in November, First They Came For The Homeless organized an occupation of city hall with some of Berkeley's homeless population. The city had added laws to specifically target homeless. The occupation lasted more than three weeks. During that time, we managed to keep almost 70 people fed, sheltered, provided a spot to store their gear, got their animals inoculated, and were there to hand out hundreds of blankets and coats during the cold snap. The cities response was to raid and illegally destroy 4 truckloads of personal property.
We are going back, July 2nd through July 4th, and are demanding answers. We are demanding to be allowed to take care of ourselves. We are demanding the right to rest. We are demanding equal rights. And we are demanding justice.
And we need help. We can not achieve the needed numbers to do more than get arrested. We cannot cause anything to change.
Too many of you are too close to losing everything. We need to understand that to be homeless is to be tortured. We need to come together and get a working safety net in place. We need to apply pressure by creating a massive presence. We need to force change for the people, and get the politicians to stop representing profits. If we don't, millions more will suffer.
Please share this event to everyone. Please try to show up, or set up occupations in solidarity. We must stand up!
