I wish this welcome to holiday visitors had a more local message: Pack Your Trash
Local homeless vets would be a lot better off without war. Nothing is more local in the United States than the topic of war, considering our violent role in the world and the role we all play in perpetuating the violence and then ignoring our vets when they come home and kill themselves or suffer on our streets without care from anybody.
It's important activists care about our environment and act to protect it, but that issue is a 365 days a year issue in Santa Cruz that people should act on everyday, not just on the 4th of July, and one would hope that this could be done or proposed without co-opting another movement.
The 4th is the perfect day to protest our war culture, which has existed from the founding of the US.
