We would laugh ourselves silly if dogs charged other dogs to live in the city. The notion that one dog might have preemptive rights to the land and could charge other dogs for use of ground space is ridiculous. In deed, if we were to see hundreds of dogs prostrate on the San Francisco County line, dying to get in to participate in Pride festivities but unwilling to pay high rent in the shape of captured rats and squirrels to the land-owning dogs, we would wonder at the mental debility of the canines. Yet this absurd social relationship is what we see minute by minute, day by day, year by year with humans. The poverty and hard-to-make-a-living existence of so many folks in the Bay Region is the result of land value being appropriated by nominal land/land debt owners at the expense of the 99%.
Come along on a FREE walking tour exploring the social movement history of San Francisco, viewed with the hypothesis that most social movements are fundamentally driven by the dynamics of who controls land values.
