Stanford Repertory Theater (SRT) presents its 18th annual summer festival, Theater Takes a Stand, celebrating the American labor movement. The festival features productions of Naomi Wallace’s Slaughter City and Clifford Odets’ Waiting for Lefty, a free film series, and a community symposium.

Directed by Alex Johnson, Wallace’s Slaughter City tells a spiky, humorous, and ultimately riveting story of a US meatpacking plant. With songs, movement, and ensemble creativity, Slaughter City unleashes theatrical magic and meaning. A West Coast premiere, SRT’s Slaughter City features Leontyne Mbele, Nora Tjossem, Fiona Maguire, Louis McWilliams, Thomas Freeland, Dorian Lockett, and Austin Caldwell.

Slaughter City plays July 21 – August 7, 2016, Thursday-Saturday, 8 pm, Sunday, 2 pm. Waiting for Lefty plays August 11 – 21, 2016, Thursday-Saturday, 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday matinees, 2 pm.

Both plays are presented at the Nitery Theater, Old Union (Lasuen Mall, opposite the Stanford bookstore). Tickets $25 / $15 (students & seniors). For information and tickets, visit our website stanfordreptheater.com or telephone 650-725-5838 and leave a message.
