Series of 3 moderated discussions, examining the issues surrounding Israel today. Learn and discuss occupation and settlements; internal divides in Israel (civil rights of Israeli Arabs & who is a Jew); and the BDS movement with both a scholar and a civil discourse facilitator. In partnership with the Jewish Community Relations Council.
May 9: Settlements and Occupation. Led by Dr. Eran Kaplan, Richard and Rhoda Goldman Chair in Israel Studies at SF State. He will be joined by Karen Schiller, a civil discourse facilitator.
May 16: Internal Issues in Israel. Led by Dr. Eran Kaplan, Richard and Rhoda Goldman Chair in Israel Studies at SF State. He will be joined by Karen Schiller, a civil discourse facilitator.
May 23: Israel on the World Stage. An update on the BDS movement locally, nationally and internationally. Led by Karen Stiller, JCRC.
ABOUT ERAN KAPLAN
Dr. Eran Kaplan, Richard and Rhoda Goldman Chair in Israel Studies at SF State. He is the author of 'The Jewish Radical Right: Revisionist Zionism and its Ideological Legacy' and 'The Origins Of Israel: A Documentary History' with Derek Penslar. You can look forward to his next book, 'Beyond Post-Zionism', scheduled to appear in 2015 with SUNY Press.
He also contributed articles to Haaretz and Tikkun. At SFSU, Professor Kaplan teaches courses on Modern Israel, the Arab-Israeli Conflict, Israeli Cinema, Modern Hebrew Culture and the History of Jerusalem.
ABOUT KAREN STILLER
Karen Stiller has been with JCRC since 2002. A native of Buffalo, New York, she moved to the Bay Area in 2000, and worked in the Preventive Defense Project at Stanford University, a project run by former high-level U.S. Department of Defense officials. She started her professional career in social work and nonprofit management, and has worked as Development Director and Manager of a program for formerly homeless families. She has an MSSA with a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Case Western Reserve University.
