For once, the California primary will be a crucial—maybe THE crucial—election in 2016. Yet voting in America is becoming more difficult. In 2016, 17 states introduced restrictions on voting. The scandalous situation in Arizona, where people had to wait five hours to vote, is just one example.
Our April Forum will address this issue from two perspectives: analysis and action. Election Reform activist Brent Turner will give an update on election fraud issues that affect our county, state and nation, together with cutting edge information about the problems of disenfranchisement and their solutions. He will also offer insight into issues concerning corporate election software and vendor control.
Following Mr. Turner’s presentation we will hold a hands-on workshop on registering voters and will prepare to join the campaign to register 100,000 voters before the June California Primary.
Brent Turner, a law school graduate with a degree in international legal studies from Oxford, England, is a community activist who has done volunteer work for the homeless, children’s health and education, civil rights and environmental issues.
He helped create the San Francisco County Voting Systems Task Force, has been a director of communications for Open Voting Consortium, and is currently on the board of the National Association of Voting Officials.

Brent has long been a staunch and informed advocate for advancing the state-of-the-art of voting systems. Brent believes, as do I, that online voting systems are now available that are much more secure than any other type of system could be. Brent and I continue to battle the entrenched naysayers who have a political and/or financial agenda to spread fear of online voting.
