Postal Police Announce Saturday Morning Raid on Berkeley Homeless Protest
On 4/2/16, at 10am, postal police will be raiding the 17 month occupation of the Berkeley Post Office. This is occurring because BPD intentionally put known drug addicts and dealers in the protest. On two separate occasions, BPD told these people to put their gear on postal property. This occurred 100 feet from the front door of Berkeley High School. We responded with emails to the city, the police, and the school. After three weeks, the group has had arrests, are openly dealing and using drugs, and are fighting. BPD's response was to say it's not our jurisdiction.
For 17 months we have maintained this protest properly. We have provided an environment of care for the needy in the commons. We are using public property for public benefit. To lose this to such tactics is beyond criminal. Especially considering how much danger the students are now in.
