Saturday 12 March 2016, 7pm: Slam poet Brian Sheffield is back in Monterey and will be sharing his gritty verse to raise money for the Monterey 8.
Brian Sheffield, a Monterey local and CSUMB alumnus, has been living in New York for over a year and making a name for himself. Attending local open mics and poetry slams, it wasn’t long before Sheffield was invited read at events and publish in New York’s literary journals and magazines. In the past few years, his work has appeared in the Outcryer, the Ishaan Literary Review, The Waggle Magazine, The Monterey Poetry Review, Hot Mess Zine, The Lone Cypress, and is in the poetry anthology Before Passing.
Brian Sheffield has published three chapbooks: Songs from Heaven’s Crooked Teeth, Sin(g), and an untitled chapbook that you can read here.

Brian Sheffield will be joined by other poets and musicians, TBA.
This event is a fundraiser to raise money for the Monterey 8 – the group of CSUMB students and alumni who were arrested last year at the Black and Brown Lives Matter demonstration in Monterey.
Suggested donation $10 (no one turned away for lack of funds)
All donations will go to support the Monterey 8.
