Friday 19 February 2016, 7pm
Theory and Philosophy Reading Group XV
Stephen Biko

This month’s Theory and Philosophy Reading Group will highlight the work of Stephen Biko (1946-1977). Biko was an anti-racist activist in Apartheid South Africa and the founder of the influential Black Consciousness Movement (BCM) which would become an important component in mobilizing many of the urban black population. For this session, we will be discussing his posthumously published essay “Black Consciousness and the Quest for a True Humanity” (1978).
