Chicago mayor faces FOIA and recall
CHICAGO (15dec15) Police murders and attempts to conceal them may lead to the recall of Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Even as Rahm "proclaimed the arrival of a fresh new era of sincerity and openness concerning policing in Chicago", a plot for his recall is hatched, while a freedom of infomation request seeks evidence of another possible murder by the Chicago Police. The Reader's Steve Boriga reported on Rahm's speech Wednesday, several days after the City missed the dealine for the FOIA he had filed.
A 13 month coverup of the death of Laquan McDonald resulted in the firing of police chief McGarry and the resignation of his top detective. This has not been enough to quell the protests for a clean sweep, including Mayor Emanuel and district attorney Anita Alvarez, who failed to investigate even when the existence of the incrimating video was known and a civil settlement had been paid to McDonald's family.
Meanwhile, in Springfield, a recall procedure for the mayor has been proposed by Democratic Rep. La Shawn Ford, WBBM reports the details and provided the photo at right.
