Slugs N' Roses Grateful Dead Tribute
plus come early for Ken Babbs and a host of Merry Pranksters
Fri. Dec. 4 at 8pm
$12 adv./$15 door Dance – ages 21 +
PRESENTED BY THE WHEEL COMPANY
Slugs N' Roses plays Grateful Dead music in an energetic, refreshing Santa Cruz style. Featuring Airy Larry and Doug Dirt from the Banana Slug String Band on guitar and bass, Slugs N' Roses delivers high energy psychedelic rock with interwoven rhythms and impassioned lyrics. Guitarists Brett Packer and August West, keyboardist Dave Faulkner, and drummer Paul Garcia round out a big powerful sound that ensures a dance party every gig. That leaves most of the vocals to Michael Sammet, who emotionally delivers a beautiful but edgy spirit to the music we have come to love.
50th Anniversary of the First Acid Test: In late November 1965 Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters decided to hold their first public Acid Test. Inviting their friends including the band the Warlocks (Jerry Garica, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh), Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg and others, the Pranksters went to Ken Babb's place in Soquel to start the party/experience that changed an entire generation. On December 4th we will honor that momentous occasion with the dedication of a historic marker. Join Ken Babbs and a host of Pranksters as we celebrate this recognition and continue what the Pranksters started 50 years ago.
Ken Babbs: One of the leaders of the social revolution that occurred in America during the fifties and sixties was Ken Babbs. He, along with Neal Cassady, Ken Kesey, and several others were part of a group called the Merry Pranksters. What started as "Happenings" soon spread across the globe and infiltrated minds for lifetimes.
