The Firehouse Art Collective's exhibition 'Humans In Between Homes' will make real, raw, visceral, and visible to housed society the experiences and humanity of the people who sleep on the street or are in between permanent places they call home. Each of these human beings deserves to be appreciated as an individual, with a unique past, present, and future.
We are showing that homeless people are human too. We are not just showing them as homeless. We are highlighting the character of each person as an individual, and shining a light on moments in their pasts, presents, or their dreams for the future that they feel define who they are-- not their status as 'homeless'.
HUMANS IN BETWEEN HOMES ART SHOW:
This exhibition will also feature:
-Artwork by artists without homes, who created their work at the Community Arts Program of Hospitality House in San Francisco. (These artists will keep 100% of the proceeds from any artwork sold.)
-A debut screening of 'All We Did was Live': a documentary made from raw footage of conversations with individuals evicted from their encampment at the Albany Bulb
-Narratives of Displacement: A live interactive map of evictions in San Francisco and Alameda County, courtesy of the SF Anti-Eviction Mapping Project, an affiliate of the SF Tenants' Union
-A tiny house (one effective solution to homelessness) on display, courtesy of the Homeless Homes Project
-Representatives from community resources on how the average person can help homeless individuals.
