Stephen Michael Clift, known to many of us as "Pirate Mike" was killed on Friday, October 30th, 2015 while in the line of duty. The Occupy SF treesitter and military veteran was on his bicycle, delivering a flag to the family of a fallen veteran when a semi truck struck and killed him, according to online accounts from his friends and family. As we celebrate the life of Mike, and mourn the loss of such a valued person in our community, please share your memories, photos, and goodbye wishes in the comments below. Gatherings in honor of Pirate Mike will be happening throughout the week, some of which are listed here.

Wow, I sure am going to miss Pirate Mike. I often photographed and video recorded him in action.

Pirate Mike was the face of OCCUPY SF to me,
ever present with his bull horn, bicycle and Vets for Peace Flag.
He was an articulate promoter of peace and justifiably critical of the military that stole his youth.
His struggles in dealing with the trauma that came from his involvement in the military haunted him.
Let's celebrate his big heart and know that his presence in the world inspires us to continue his work for peace.
His mission to travel the country speaking out for homeless veterans is so very commendable.
Rest in Peace, Pirate Mike
