Anita Wills Announces the release of her Fifth Book, A Nation of Flaws JustUs in the Homeland. The book is an examination of America’s Judicial System and its treatment of African Americans and other Minorities
Anita Wills, Author of A Nation of Flaws JustUs in the Homeland, confronts the American Justice System from its inception to the present day. The book looks at the history of America, beginning with the Colonization of the Americas. The unequal legal system was written to keep Natives and slaves in check and did not apply to the White Males.
The Author connects police killings of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans to laws and attitudes that date to Colonization. During that period, Natives were stripped of their rights and lands, for the benefit of Europeans. Once the land rush was on, African Slaves were brought in as Chattel to work the land. The laws passed during that period were meant to strip Natives of their rights and maintain the system of chattel slavery.
The present day Police killings of Black and Brown is a continuation of that system, and for the moment has been disrupted by marches and protests. The book includes high profile killings of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, and others; as well as other killings that were not high profile. The book goes on to compare sentencing and treatment of the likes of Dylann Roof, James Holmes, and other White Males by the system with the treatment of African Americans.
“Until the killing of Black men, Black mothers’ sons, becomes as important to the rest of the country as the killing of a White mother’s son—we who believe in freedom cannot rest until this happens.--Ella Baker
Anita Wills is the Author of Notes and Documents of Free Persons of Color, Pieces of the Quilt the Mosaic of An African American Family, Black Minqua the Life and Times of Henry Green.
