Socialist Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant speak in Oakland! With Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Chris Hedges and Richmond City Councillor and former Green Mayor, Gayle McLaughlin to speak alongside Kshama at this event!
In 2015 Socialist Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant’s re-election campaign is the frontline in the battle against the political dominance of the 1% in Seattle and across the country.
Since her election in 2013, Councilmember Sawant has led the opposition to the corporate agenda in the Pacific Northwest. She spearheaded the first successful fight in a major city for a $15 an hour minimum wage that has since spread to San Francisco and Los Angeles. This year she’s leading the housing justice movement to address the out of control rent in Seattle.
And it’s because of this that, so far, over 160 CEO’s and top executives from Starbucks, Alaska Airlines, Boeing, and real estate developers have contributed over $80,000 to Sawant’s opponent.
This is only the beginning.
The political and corporate establishment in Seattle are prepared to spend whatever it takes to defeat Sawant.
Super PACs full of dark money have formed with deep out of state pockets determined to defeat Kshama and crush any movements that threaten their profits.
Like Chris Hedges wrote, “Sawant’s fight is our fight!”.
It is crucial that Kshama Sawant be re-elected to continue leading a movement for an alternative vision of politics - one that puts the needs of working people before corporate profits.
Join the movement for independent politics that is challenging the status quo in 2015
