Third March for Rent Stabilization in Mountain View
La renta sube, sube ....El pueblo sufre, sufre! Members and allies of the Mountain View Tenants Coalition chanted as they marched passed City Hall to the intersection at El Camino Real where they waved signs for passing motorists to see. This was their third Friday evening march during rush hour.
It's the end of summer and Mountain View public schools have started. Despite being worn down by a long first week at school, many children showed up to this week's rally to bolster demonstrators' voices demanding rent stabilization. This is the third Friday that members and allies of the Mountain View Tenants Coalition have marched for tenant protections in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Kids as well as adults took to megaphones chanting La renta sube, sube ....El pueblo sufre, sufre! The Mountain View City Council will meet in on September 8; songs and chants in both Spanish and English energized the crowd for a big rally planned for that date.
Once again, demonstrators covered all four corners of the El Camino Real and Castro St. intersection. The ever-present Raging Grannies (Las Abuelitas Enojadas) raised the decibel levels of chants and songs helping event organizer Granny Maria, member of the Mountain View Tenants Coalition, pump up the enthusiasm.
