Open Letter to SF Pride (re: Pink Brick for AirBnB)

Open Letter to SF Pride (re: Pink Brick for AirBnB)
Dear SF Pride Directors,

I understand the Pink Brink nomination process for 2015 is done with, but I would like to recommend a last-minute recipient for this year: AirBnB. AirBnB has been a major provocateur of residential displacement, and the QUILTBAG community remains economically vulnerable despite the high visibility of "out" 1%ers like Tim Cook.

AirBnB claims their services (which are only available to the already-privileged) make San Francisco more affordable. In reality, they only attempt to justify the unaffordability caused by real-estate speculation, a process that AirBnB itself escalates.

AirBnB's attempts to pinkwash itself through advertising and sponsorship might fool the directors of SF Pride, but they do not fool me. This event remains, as in recent years past, not a community festival, but a futile exercise in corporate and political subservience.

Sincerely,
Eli Harrison
