May Day Anti-Capitalist/Oakland 2 Baltimore March, 2015: photos
May Day in Oakland began with the ILWU shutting down the port of Oakland in a show of support for the Black Lives Matter movement. A large morning march then headed to Oscar Grant plaza for an afternoon rally. Originally, a call-out was made for an evening anti-capitalist march starting at Latham Square, but after Baltimore exploded in protest on the day of Freddie Grey's funeral on April 27, the march was instead called as a solidarity action, Oakland 2 Baltimore. At it's height, marchers numbered close to 200 people, playing cat and mouse with Oakland police who tried multiple times to redirect the march or prohibit it from proceeding.

At least two people were arrested at different locations towards the end of the march, which effectively ended when a group of 20-30 people were temporarily kettled and released in small groups, only after being photographed by police.
Extensive damage was done to corporate businesses downtown and car dealerships along Broadway, leading conservative San Francisco columnists Chip Johnson and Debra Saunders to call for some sort of legal ban on nighttime marches in Oakland...
