People's City Council Steps into Action in Oakland City Hall to Save E12th Street (VIDEO)
Here's the clip from the city of Oakland's own video as activists seize control of the Oakland Council Chamber in City Hall on May 5 to protest the illegal sale of city-owned land at E12th Street. In the clip here, new mayor Libby Schaaf makes closing remarks on her first proposed city budget, before the Council was to proceed with their scheduled agenda including the pro forma approval of transfering city land to a for-profit developer with no affordable housing requirements. Then, before the regular meeting begins, activists move into position within the dais, with a large banner and lockboxes. The video feed is cut by the city as the People's Council steps into action with loud chants of "I believe that we will win," transcribed on the big screen by the council stenographer.
