The UC Santa Cruz Highway Six have their last pre-trial hearing tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM at the Santa Cruz Courthouse. Members of the Highway Six are expected to either plead no contest or plead not guilty and go to trial. They are facing two misdemeanor charges of public nuisance and resisting arrest. A trial date has been set for the end of June.
A press conference will be held after the pre-trial hearing on the lower steps of the entrance area to the courthouse. Some members of the Highway Six will be speaking publicly for the first time since their arrests on March 3, 2015. Community members are also expected to share statements of support.
Members of the Highway 6 are also facing unprecedented University sanctions in addition to the criminal charges. They have been suspended by the University until September 1, 2016, must complete 100-120 hours of community service prior to readmission to the University, and will have stayed suspensions imposed on them for the remainder of their undergraduate studies. The University is expected to release a decision any day now as to whether these sanctions will remain in effect or whether other sanctions will be imposed.
