24 Hour Porta Potty CLEANING TEAM sought.
A group of local citizens are stepping up to clean the city's only 24 hour porta potty. We need your help as crew or to purchase cleaning supplies.
The city has moved in the right direction with last year's installation of a 24hour porta potty, but the cleaning schedule is far to few to offer those using it any basic level of dignity. While the city's two parking garage bathrooms get cleaned every 2 hours, this porta potty is cleaned only 3 days per week. If you think that it is a disgusting mess most of the time, you're correct.
All of the city's parking garage and park bathrooms are clean by the Department of Parks and Recreation and they have daily schedules for cleanings. Since the porta potty is owned by a private company, the city workers refuse to touch it. The porta potty company has only a cleaning schedule of 3 days per week maximum, leaving this unit dirty most of the time.
As the city begins to talk about increasing the hours of operation of the other city run bathrooms, this group of local residents believe that this porta potty needs to be cleaned more often. It is used mostly by people experiencing homelessness, attendees of Warrior basket ball games and those leaving bars after hours when all other facilities downtown are closed.
Since this is a 24 hour porta potty, it really should be cleaned at least daily.
We're building a team of at least 4 people to clean the porta potty on days when the service company doesn't. So far we have two people who've volunteered, including city council person Micah Posner and local homeless program administrator Brent Adams.

PeaceCamp2010 had a porta-potty for the 3 months of the protest. It was usable, for all 3 months. One time it got abused, at the courthouse, when we woke up to a HUGE line of pre-marathon joggers that the marathon organizers had abandoned to the toilet-less pre-dawn hours.

Drunk wannabe-jocks and the unscoring? There's your problem right there. They lack any self interest, willing to trash anything. We were subjected to plenty of their kind of lawless, unprosecuted behavior (including urinating, defecating, and fighting on the streets near their bars) while the protest was at city hall.
The simple solution is moving the porta potty, away from the cash-laden drunks that the Warriors and bars are dumping on downtown. Somewhere discreet. Those in need will know where it is.

yeah - maybe you could find a way to leave the cleaning supplies there. It isn't necessarily the case that only completely dysfunctional people would mess up a porta potty, or toilet - although I manage to live and work with people who pretty much never leave the toilet dirty.
There is a percentage of people who think that toilet seats are dirty (and this is both porta potties or toilets at UCSC or a restaurant) so they either hover over the seat and sort of spray their urine on it, or they stand on the seat with their feet leaving footprints. Leaving cleaning supplies lets everyone else deal with this.
