The CARA SF CAT is the local chapter of the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA).

CARA is a group of over 200 labor and community organizations collectively representing over 950,000 Californians, with 17 chapters ("CATs") across California.

We focus on local events to advance our state-wide agenda in protecting Social Security and Medicare, promoting single-payer healthcare, securing a fair state budget, and housing, as well as engaging in local issues.

As Medicare approaches its 50th birthday, Republicans and some Democrats in Washington have their first priority to gut Medicare, (1) raising the eligibility age to 67, (2) making many more of us pay extra premiums, (3) canceling measures to reduce our drug costs, (4) and worse of all, making Medicare a voucher program where they send you a check to buy skimpy private insurance with caps of $5,000 to $10,000 per year of benefits.

Come to this meeting to hear of CARA's plans to protect Medicare, improve its benefits, and expand it to everyone, so young, healthy people pay into it and everyone can benefit from truly universal healthcare with a single, equal standard of care for everyone.
