David Hartsough has been deeply committed to, and has been working actively for, nonviolent social change and peaceful resolution of conflicts since he met Martin Luther King in 1956.
David has been arrested over a hundred times for his participation in nonviolent demonstrations for peace and justice in the US – for civil rights for black people, against nuclear weapons development, testing and production, against the US war in Vietnam and the US supported wars in Central American in the 1980’s, and against the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has written eloquently about these and many others from his extraordinary life in "Waging Peace: Global Adventures of a Lifelong Activist." He will read from and discuss his book this Thursday at The Green Arcade - free admission.
David is Executive Director of Peaceworkers based in San Francisco and is Co-Founder of the Nonviolent Peaceforce. His articles have been published in Sojourners, Fellowship, Peacework, Friends Journal, Western Friend, Waging Nonviolence, National Catholic Reporter, and Street Spirit.
