Israel’s expanding occupation of Palestinian territories imposes a regime of separate and unequal often compared to South African apartheid. But when apartheid is viewed as a process, the parallels are stunning. As campaigns for boycott and divestment from the Israeli occupation gain momentum, it will be recalled that such campaigns against South Africa never led to retribution against whites and the country remained united.
