Experiments in Youth Organizing:
Insights and Reflections from Bay Area Solidarity Summer and United Roots
Are you educating and organizing against rising inequality, profound social injustice, and state violence, but finding youths going elsewhere and your membership ageing?
Find out how to rejuvenate your movement. Discover how to attract, engage, and organize young people who hold the key to the future. Learn how to help youths exercise their creative ideas, boundless, energy, and inherent social activism.
Join Bay Area youth organizers Simmy Makhijani and Anirvan Chatterjee to learn the inside stories of Bay Area Solidarity Summer (a political action camp for young progressive South Asians, http://www.solidaritysummer.org) and United Roots (Oakland's green youth arts and media center, http://www.unitedrootsoakland.org).
They’ll cover the practical (outreach, resources, budget, logistics, and group structure), the political (pedagogy, curriculum, politics of youth organizing), and lessons learned from the histories of these two very different community organizations.
Activists from other youth organizations will also share their experiences. Participatory discussion encouraged.
Includes dinner
Suggested donation: $10-20 / Youths $5
RSVP by January 29 to coordinator [at] sanjosepeace.org,
