[ Update 1/15/15: Facebook temporarily shut down the event page ]
We Demand:
+ Disband the BART Police
+ A ticket discount for low-income BART passengers
+ Drop all the charges and fines against the BlackFriday14
This protest has been planned autonomously in response to the Anti-Police-Terrorism Project call for a “Reclaiming King's Legacy" action weekend. APTP is a multi-racial, multi-generational coalition, led by the most impacted communities. APTP is working to develop a replicable and sustainable model to end police terrorism in this country. Click below for the full callout.
There is a state-sponsored war on Black lives in the United States and people across the country are demanding that it comes to an end. As long as it remains business as usual to gun down Black women, men and children in the streets of this country, there will be no business as usual anywhere or for anyone. Shut. It. Down.

Dudes I'm all for the purpose of this protest but no way in hell am I showing up with an object when I don't know what y'all are planning with them.
Go.
And fyi, having a spoon is not illegal. If you don't like what they have planned, you can put it away in your pocket and eat ice cream (or whatever) with it later.

Please consider that people have jobs, family, and that disrupting transportation service will not accomplish any of the 3 things that are being demanded.
1. The bart police is absolutely necessary. All major transportation systems in the world have police.
2. The bart tickets are already heavily subsidized. Like, if bart was a private company, the ticket prices would be 50-75% higher. Also, it's practically impossible to lower them for low income citizens as you buy a ticket at the stand. Asking someone "Are you low income" on the monitor would mean everyone would click. This is just an impossible goal.
3. Dropping charges for previously trespassing is fine, except that trespassing in order to get someone to drop trespassing charges against you is like stealing from a store in order to get them to drop charges for previously stealing from there store. Two wrongs don't make a right.
There are plenty of ways to protest and plenty of things to protest for. Please consider this before disrupting the lives of tens of thousands of people.
