Tens of thousands of people, from all walks of life, have taken up the struggle to put a stop to the racially targeted epidemic of police murder! This movement must continue. It must spread. It must become more broad and determined, in the next period and through the course of this next year.
At this meeting we will assess this powerful resistance and make plans for taking next steps to meet the challenge of stopping the entire program of mass incarceration, police terror, repression and the criminalization of entire generations.
AGENDA:
√ Assessing the powerful resistance of the past 5 months
√ making plans for taking next steps to meet the challenge of
stopping the entire program of mass incarceration, police terror,
repression and the criminalization of entire generations.
√ Including; Planning nationally school walkouts around MLK day
√ Plans for the 50 Anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X
√ New plans for reaching out to Students, and faith Communities
√ Call to SMIN members: to Confront the Anti-Abortion Woman Haters in San Francisco on January 24
√ Planning for National SMIN Conference - Next Month (TBA)

2014 was a momentous year. As summer turned to fall, long-suppressed outrage burst into a massive struggle against police murder. The courageous, defiant protest that erupted in Ferguson, Missouri, after the system murdered Michael Brown, spread coast-to-coast after a grand jury exonerated the cop who killed him. That, and new outbreaks of outrage and resistance—as the system continued to murder Black people with impunity—involved tens and even hundreds of thousands from all walks of life. The struggle affected the thinking of tens of millions. “The whole world was—and IS—watching!” A new spirit of resistance emerged and caught fire.
Thousands of people and many different groups in the San Francisco and East Bay Area played a big role in all of this, with daily expressions of outrage from different groups and coming from different places. Stop Mass Incarceration Network was proud to be in the thick of it. In a system where murder by police is usual business, we took the streets to bring this system - and its freeways, transit, businesses and celebrations - to a screeching HALT!
NO BUSINESS AS USUAL!!
And on New Year's Eve, in a press conference on the steps of the San Francisco Hall of "IN"justice, (attended by all the major networks) we, joining with other groups, made it clear that 2014 is only the Beginning!
2015!
NO NEW YEAR IN THE SAME OLD SYSTEM!
WE CAN'T BREATHE!
Many answered our call to bring the spirit of resistance to police terror to the New Year Celebration at the waterfront of San Francisco. 200,000 people in were in attendance, and quite a few joined our march, chanting and carrying banners.
