Economically, the lower half of the population controls 1% of the federation-of-state's wealth. The top 1% controls over 40%. Which of those two groups can afford to hire a lawyer? Poor people are hounded by debt collectors, pay a higher portion of their annual wages in taxes, etc. Of those taxes, property taxes are the most regressive. Renters pay all of property taxes of the building they live in and renters are typically in the poorer portion of the spectrum. It's the masses of poorer people who pay for the existance of local and county governments.

The once public Alameda County Law Library is hosting it's FIFTH debt collection seminar in as many months. There is a book for sale and continuing education credits available. As poverty increases, lawyers are being hard pressed for clients. This is one of many questionable services they are chasing after. It's essentially the last licking clean of the carcass. Is this something that a county government should be facilitating? The county collects the property taxes that are then shared with the municipal corporations and the state.

Let your county supervisor know that these types of seminars should not be happening.
