When Marissa Alexander fired a warning shot to stop her abusive ex-husband from attacking her, she injured no one. Yet, she--the victim of abuse--was tried and found guilty of aggravated assault and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Through a growing movement to free her, the initial guilty verdict was overturned. But state attorney Angela Corey is trying her again this December, and this time is demanding a 60 YEAR SENTENCE!
Marissa is a survivor of domestic violence, and is only facing charges because of this racist and unjust legal system. There is no crime in defending yourself from abuse. She should not be subjected to a second trial. All charged against her should be dropped IMMEDIATELY!
We will NOT sit silent as Marissa is prosecuted for a second time.
