CREDO Action urges NO vote on Prop. 1, the California Water Bond

In an action alert to their members on August 15, John Nelson, the Campaign Manager from CREDO Action from Working Assets, urged a NO vote on Proposition 1, Governor Jerry Brown's Water Bond.

The group also urged a NO vote on Propositions 2 and 48. They recommended a YES vote on Props. 45 and 47 - and have not taken a position on Prop. 46.

"Election Day is November 4 and many Californians have already received their ballots in the mail. I wanted to make sure you have the information you need to have a great voting experience," said Nelson.

"Corporate interests in California are flooding the airwaves with TV ads designed to mislead voters about the ballot initiatives we’ll be voting on this fall.

That's why our friends at the Courage Campaign have put together the California Progressive Voter Guide, which includes endorsements on the six statewide ballot measures from more than a dozen organizations, including CREDO Action," said Nelson.

Here are CREDO’s 2014 ballot measure endorsements:

Proposition 46: Position Not Taken
Proposition 47: Vote For
Proposition 48: Vote Against

The Courage Campaign has not taken a position on Propositions 1, 46 or 48, but supports a NO vote on Prop. 2 and YES votes on Prop. 45, and 47.

CREDO joins Food and Water Watch, AFSCME 57 and many other organizations in opposing Prop. 1. The Con argument for Prop. 1 on the Progressive Voter Guide states: "Proposition 1 is an expensive and unfair taxpayer giveaway to special interests that won’t solve the drought or help secure our water future. It allocates over $3.6 billion, without oversight by the legislature, to build dams and pay for water transfers for corporate agribusiness. Prop 1 with interest will cost CA taxpayers $14.4 billion or $360 million per year for 40 years out of our State’s general fund, money that could be used for other needs like education and healthcare."

ACCE Action, the ACLU, Californians for Safe Neighborhoods & Schools, the CA Partnership, and Consumer Watchdog, Mobilize the Immigrant Vote, National Union of Healthcare Workers and PresentePAC+ haven't taken a position on Prop. 1.

The California Federation of Teachers, California League of Conservation Votes and California Labor Federation are backing Prop. 1.
