Tuesday, October 07, 2014
Time:
6:00 PM
-
8:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Mithrell Bowerman
Location Details:
In Front of City Hall facing Center Street.(809 Center Street, Santa Cruz)
6:00pm Rally in front of City Hall
7:00pm Speak at City Council meeting or support those who are speaking. Item is on Council Agenda.
.
Come join us to support Paula and her cottage as well as a moratorium on evictions of tenants from their granny units under the City's Rental Inspection Program (RIP). Tenants are being evicted from safe, warm, well-lit units into a rental market in which it is virtually impossible to find another place to live. Reasons given by the City for these evictions are things such as "lot size" and "unit too close to property line". These are matters that can wait at least until the rental crisis passes. City-driven evictions are contributing to the rent increases and rental unit shortages throughout Santa Cruz County. Join us as we demand a stop to City-initiated evictions for non-safety reasons.

This event may draw me to that accursed City Council chamber. I hate the pretentious seating arrangement, like the public is coming to beg for crumbs before bombastic people who should be our servants. The wind is turning — the present City Council will learn they should have served the public rather then gorging heartily at our expense.
