Music and discussion on Honduras: 5 years after the Coup, the Popular Resistance Continues…
On June 28, 2009, a military coup ousted the democratically elected President of Honduras and gave a re-birth to the popular resistance. Continuing the generational struggle for collective liberation, numerous sectors of society have come together to resist the increased militarization of peoples' traditional homelands. Despite the politically motivated attacks against journalists, lawyers, LGBTQ activists and organized field workers, the people of land we refer to as Honduras continue to organize and fight for justice. The presentation of the Feminist organizer, Karla Lara, will provide an update on the current human rights crisis which has led to the recent exodus of thousands of children seeking refuge from the structural violence of extreme poverty and social disparities. She will also provide us with the healing powers of music as she performs with members of her band, Híbridos Jazz.
