Climate Refugees
The Human Face of Climate Change
Climate Refugees addresses the issue of climate change-induced migration. The term “refugees” is controversial because it implies for some people, particularly Pacific Islanders, a negative legal category. Adaptation could include the notion of “migration with dignity” which would involve pre-planning and anticipation of needs before circumstances are so dire that people are forcibly displaced.
Scientists have designated the contemporary geologic epoch the Anthropocene because human beings are the dominant force affecting the fundamental systems that govern life on earth. Since the global land mass has been carved up into nation-states, how will these entities cope with the millions of people on the move both internally and across borders looking for safety and sustenance as a result of climate chaos? Climate Refugees investigates this condition through interviews with people already devastated by climate disaster and with specialists grappling with the problem.
Climate change is about upheaval. Upheaval is the enemy of security. --Andrew Simms
Q&A and Announcements will follow.
