The Association of Faith Communities is hosting a City Council Candidates Forum on Thursday, October 9th at 7:00 at Calvary Episcopal Church. The theme will be Compassionate Governance and Social Justice. Our format will be to have a panel of three local leaders each deliver short remarks about a particular subject area and then pose one question to the candidates in a rotating fashion. The forum duration will be ninety (90) minutes.
We have asked Pastor Steve Defields-Gambrel and Linda Lemaster to serve as panelists and the third panelist will be a former city council member to be announced when confirmed. Steve will be talking about the need for more and better social and mental health resources and his question will address that area. Linda will do the same for housing and homelessness. The council member will comment on the part that compassionate governance plays in public service and his or her question will address how you view your role as a council member from a compassionate perspective.
We believe this forum will provide an invaluable opportunity to ask questions about social justice issues that may not arise during any other campaign forum. We believe these are important questions and that the community will benefit by the candidates' insights and answers.
Please join us.
