The Lessons Of Ferguson For Working People And Our Unions

Thursday September 18, 2014 6:00 PM
Labor/Community Forum
SEIU 1021 San Francisco
350 Rhode Island St/17th St.
San Francisco

The growing repression, racism and economic depression exposed at Ferguson is not unique. Every poor, Black and Latino community faces militarization of the police and targeting/profiling. These communities also face privatization of education and public services threatening permanent better paying union jobs.

The outsourcing of tens of thousands of auto and industrial union jobs in St. Louis and the growing repression of the communities is directly connected.

This forum will look at the racial and class divide and what our unions and the labor movement should be doing about it.

Speakers:
Brenda Barros SEIU 1021 SF General Hospital Chief Steward
Tobias Caine, UESF member
Brian Crowell, AFT Berkeley Federation of Teachers
George Wright, AFT 1472 Skyline College Professor Retired
Yulanda Williams President, Officer For Justice

The mass protests in Ferguson and protests around the country show that this is not an isolated case but systemic of the repression and attacks on Black and Latino communities.

self-explanatory question. Inviting a cop to speak on Ferguson is like inviting Adolf Hitler on the Jewish question.
