Dana Cafe is a monthly gathering in Oakland California offering transformational teachings at no cost to participants. Each month on 1st Sunday Dana Cafe invites different social change educators, teachers and facilitators from various arts and healing traditions to lead a session. Our monthly classes are offered for Dana (give as you able and inspired) and there is no set fee to attend.
On August 3, 2014, the Dana Cafe welcomes Mollie Moorhead! Learn how to safely use plant medicines to treat common health conditions and maintain wellness for yourself and your family. In this workshop, we will look at (and smell and taste) some of the most useful herbs from India, Europe and the Americas, as well as learn about all the practical stuff: Dosage, modes of administration, contraindications, and some basic Ayurvedic herbal theory.
Mollie Moorhead:
I fell madly in love with Ayurveda after I began learning about it from my yoga teacher Cary Twomey in about 2006. I found it to be the most complete, full, and beautiful system for understanding health - a way to really care for the whole person. I felt like I had been seeking it for years without exactly knowing what I was seeking, and I was hooked from the beginning.
I began formal Ayurvedic study in 2009 as a distance learning student at the California College of Ayurveda(CCA), a California state-approved college for the study of Ayurveda, which meets or exceeds the educational guidelines of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association. I recently completed the Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist internship, the highest level of training offered at CCA. I have also trained in Ayurvedic body therapies and am a certified massage therapist.
I originally come from a background in meditation, yoga practice and instruction, having studied with several primary teachers and lovingly maintained a regular home practice since 2002. I did teacher trainings at the Heartwood Institute later with Tias Little in Omaha, NE, as well as many workshops to deepen my practice. I taught yoga in a variety of settings for four years, but have been taking a break from teaching yoga to focus on Ayurvedic study and practice.
In my spare time, I love playing music alone and with friends, hiking, biking, and hanging out at home with my partner and our cat.
