Six months ago, a chemical spill upstream of Charleston, WV contaminated the drinking water for 300,000 people. The incident made national headlines for a few weeks – the worst drinking water contamination event in US history. National media coverage has moved on, but the situation in West Virginia remains far from normal. Only a third of people in Charleston now drink their tap water. And residents remain deeply concerned about the long-term health effects of the chemical that spilled and the fact that the water utility has not taken steps to improve the safety of its system.
Come learn more about the stories that are not being covered in the media and support the work of Advocates for a Safe Water System, a community organization in West Virginia fighting for clean water.
$25 suggested donation. Light refreshments will be served.
