The U.S.-Mexico border has undergone dramatic change in the last several years in terms of migration patterns, enforcement, cross-border economic activity, and the impact on families. It provides an often hidden perspective on larger issues of free trade, immigration reform, the prison-industrial complex, and civil liberties.

Dr. Sharat G. Lin writes on global political economy, labor migration, and public health. He is a contributing author to the book Studies in Inequality and Social Justice (2009) with a chapter on the popular movement for immigration reform. He has visited the U.S.-Mexico border over a dozens times in recent years. He is currently a research fellow at the San Jose Peace and Justice Center.
