why are anti-police brutality movements attempt to preemptively neutralize their effectiveness with dogmatic pacifism?

To respond to the previous post Should the organizers of the march on 5/25 call for a Violent action ? That of course is a rhetorical question . Such a ultra militant stance would 1. Give the Salinas cops (and those Agribusiness execs that they really ''serve and protect '' ) a excuse to either out right ban the march and to attack it as soon as it assembles 2. Reduce the numbers dramatically to a fraction of the anticipated turnout . Most people , no matter how outraged, don't want to confront a obviously murderous para military police force.
3. Allow the local corporate media to change the subject from a completely unjustified shooting to that of ''violent protestors'' blah blah .
Don't misunderstand . Of course the cops might attack the march no matter how peaceful the action may be .
I'm not a pacifist . Something that has bothered me throughout the years is that the choices are often falsely narrowed down to a completely non militant legal march or a a futile small group confrontation with the police.
Why not actions who's organizers state that THEY plan to be ''non violent 'but they have a large organized disciplined force that , if attacked, would attempt to defend themselves and the march participants ?

1. if the police have proven themselves to be ruthless and attack the community with impunity, what will declaring ourselves peaceful do? nothing.

2. it's not about declaring a violent action, but preemptively declaring it peaceful will only marginalize those who do not believe in pacifism. this will only strengthen state and media narratives about "good" and "bad" protesters.

3. the media will attempt to smear the protests no matter how nice, family friendly or obedient they are. if there is no possible way to smear it, or at least sow divisions as previously mentioned, they won't cover it.
