Celebrate the 4th year of the San Francisco Green Film Festival with our community of like-minded, eco-savvy, film-lovers while exploring the magic and wonder of the Aquarium of the Bay. Meet guests, filmmakers and aquatic life while enjoying local, sustainable food & beverages.
8:00 PM ~ OPENING NIGHT FILM PREMIERE: DAMNATION
San Francisco Premiere.
Discussion with: Ben Knight, director/editor; Travis Rummel, director/producer; Matt Stoecker, producer/underwater photographer.
Our national attitude towards dams is changing. From pride in big dams as feats of engineering, there is now a growing awareness that we can bring back the life and health of our rivers. In 'DamNation' we see how dam removal moved beyond the fictional 'Monkey Wrench Gang' to go mainstream. We see obsolete dams come down, rivers bound back to life, giving salmon and other wild fish the right of return to primeval spawning grounds, after decades without access. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2014 SXSW festival, the film’s majestic cinematography and unexpected discoveries move through rivers and landscapes altered by dams and the personal stories of people fighting to bring rivers back to their natural state.
