Witness Against U.S. Drone Strikes
Date:
Wednesday, April 09, 2014
Time:
5:30 PM
-
6:30 PM
Event Type:
Vigil/Ritual
Organizer/Author:
Curt
Location Details:
north-west corner of Market and Montgomery Streets
Noor Behram remembers why he started on his mission to photograph the scenes of drone attacks in Pakistan. The reason was 12 dead people -- an entire family extinguished in what was officially a U.S. attack on militants.
Unsubstantiated identification of "terrorists" not only denies age-old principles of presumptive innocence, it defies the ability to differentiate the "good" guys from the "bad." Investigative work by journalist Noor Behram and lawyers like Shahzad Akbar reveals the truth about the U.S. drone campaign: that far more civilians are being injured or killed than your government is prepared to admit.
President Obama has assigned himself the power of targeted assassination. It is up to us, people living in this country, acting together with people around the world, to stand up, tell the truth, and say no.
We can work to grow resistance at this week's drone vigil initiated by CodePink, this Wednesday,
and every Wednesday in the foreseeable future.
