The Inter-Union Organizing Committee, R&F CAPS, Local 39 & other union members will demand a decent contract on April 16, 2014 during negotiations for those contracts with HR. The Governor has ordered a cost neutral budget and intends to enforce it at the expense of state workers' living conditions. He has already extracted a concessionary give back contract from the largest unions representing state workers.
But the State Scientists, the Operating Engineers and State Lawyers have held out for a decent contract. Our demands are all based on long term pay parity inequities due to which our compensation has fallen below our peers and the prevailing wage. This has created problems of recruitment and retention for the state, and insecurity, frustration and demoralization among the workers.
We will rally to demand a decent contract, to rebuild our unions' democracy and power, and to build our determination to create solidarity with all workers, the community and others victimized by the cutbacks. California only had 84 billionaires before the economic crisis of 2008-2015. Now after state workers “sharing the pain” there are 100 billionaires in CA. Today, the profits of the 1% are protected by the politicians at our expense.
MAKE THE BANKSTERS, THE BILLIONAIRES AND THEIR CORPORATIONS PAY! NO CONTRACT NO WORK
