Abortion rights are in a state of emergency, and headed for disaster. Already, women in this country who cannot access safe abortions are attempting to self-abort by inserting sharp objects in their vaginas, taking pills, asking their boyfriends to beat them up, and more. Others are being forced to bear children they do not want. This is the future for women everywhere if this war on women is not massively resisted and defeated.
WE MUST ACT TO STOP THIS NOW!
In light of the emergency situation that abortion rights are in, people in major cities across the country who consider themselves to be “pro-choice” will be part of re-claiming the moral high ground around abortion rights, changing the terms of this debate, and joining in mass resistance to stop these attacks on women’s lives.
On Saturday, April 12, join people from all walks of life across the nation on this day, as we hold silent protests outside of the headquarters of institutions that are spearheading the attacks on abortion rights. In San Francisco we will go to the “home parish” of the anti-abortion Walk for “Life” 2014 - the event that drew thousands to SF on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and works to abolish all abortion.
As Saturday mass begins, we will raise bloody coat hangers and wear shackles to represent the world they are working for: one where women are driven to desperation, death, and forced motherhood. After an hour of silent protest we will break the shackles and pledge to resist and reverse these attacks on abortion rights, and win abortion on demand and without apology.
