Arthur Szyk fused his two passions—art and history—into a visual commentary on the dangerous parallel between the Exodus narrative of Egyptian oppression and the alarming developments unfolding in Nazi Germany. Scholar Irvin Ungar lays the groundwork for appreciating and understanding Szyk’s Haggadah masterwork in this gallery talk.
Irvin Ungar is the foremost expert and leading dealer of the artwork of Arthur Szyk. He is the author of Justice Illuminated: The Art of Arthur Szyk, and the co-producer of the documentary film, Arthur Szyk: Soldier in Art, and the publisher of the luxury limited edition of The Szyk Haggadah (2008).
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Arthur Szyk and the Art of the Haggadah.
